Brussels Airport (Zaventem)

www.brusselsairport.be

You are advised to inform your airline when booking your flight of any special requests or arrangements such as collapsible or powered wheelchairs.

If you have a medical condition which requires a specific diet you should notify the airline well in advance.

  • Car parking

There is a designated drop off/pick up area for the disabled at the departure level with facilities for wheelchair users. Car Parks Front 1 and 2 provide parking spaces specifically for disabled. In Front Park 1 they are located at levels 2 (departures) 3,4 and 5; in Front Park 2 you will find them on level 3 (arrivals).

  • By train to Brussels airport

The platforms of Brussels airport train station, located on level 1 are directly connected to the departures and arrivals level by escalators and elevators.

  • By bus

The bus parking, located at level 0, provides wheelchair access to the terminal and from there via the elevators to all public levels.

  • In the terminal
    • Departures/Check in

Airline staff will escort you from check-in to departure gate and on to the aircraft. If your disabilities are not immediately apparent, please inform check-in staff of your needs.

    • Arrivals/Transfers/Changing terminals

If you have a connecting flight airline staff will take you to a designated gate. If Brussels is your final destination you can be accompanied to the “Meeters and Greeters” area in the arrival hall.

Facilities for the disabled are clearly signposted and identified with the international symbol.

The entrances to the terminal open automatically and are large enough for wheelchair users to get to the departure gates themselves. The doors are marked with contrasting strips to make them more visible for the visually impaired.

The spacious passenger elevators are suitable for wheelchairs.

A First Aid team is on duty at all times (24/24, 7 days a week). Any airline staff will assist if aid is needed.

Guide (assistance) dogs are allowed at Brussels airport. Please check with the relevant airlines as to whether they are allowed to travel in the cabin.

There is no Pharmacy at Brussels airport (as at 11/09/2006)

Toilets are situated throughout the airport and most include special facilities for the disabled.

Currently only Guide Dogs supplied through Guide Dogs for the Blind Association can be carried on Eurostar trains, although Eurostar are looking into allowing other Assistance Dogs on their service. Guide Dogs are carried under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) or Pet Passport scheme as it is commonly called. The scheme is run by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Before you travel you will need to make sure that you have all the papers to prove that your dog has had all the necessary injections and vaccinations. The PETS scheme is very strict and entry requirements for different countries can change daily, so it is important that you check thoroughly before you travel. As well as your vet or relevant training organisation, you should check the PETS section of the Defra website at:
